Each post is made up of assignments to complete, which always includes watching the lecture, and sometimes includes additional reading with links to where the reading can be found, or other handouts to be completed. Probably the best way to fully study through a course. These lectures are sometimes recorded with iTunes U in mind, sometimes they appear to have just been filmed and added to iTunes U because the files were available. They are usually structured into courses made up of lots of different lectures. ITunes U is essentially a collection of lectures and educational talks on lots of different subjects. In it's simplest form iTunes U is a collection of educational podcasts, it can be used to learn and also to teach, we're going to look at both of those uses of iTunes U in this post.
iTunes U is one of those useful products. The effectiveness of learning is all about the teacher not the technology, but assisting the teacher with good and useful technology can help that teacher to be more effective. I'd say you wouldn't want to waste your time making a fictitious school or being dishonest on the application, but if you were unaffiliated, you might list that and see how the application process goes.Tablets and other mobile devices are finding an ever increasing presence in the modern classroom, sometimes they just seem to be there because they can be, at other times it's clear to see that they are being used as valuable learning tools. The system is clearly designed / worded to prevent just anyone from joining, but I don't know how strict Apple would be in approving an application.
So, you might either find a school that allows you to begin publishing or consider forming one. Teachers not affiliated with schools that have public iTunes U sites are limited to 12 courses and 50 students per course.

You could of course form a school since the categories look broad (Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, High School, Undergraduate, Graduate, Professional and/or Vocational) and it's not clear based on where you live what legal requirements are present to form a school. It asks you to define your affiliation with some sort of school - so that might be a problem if you don't have a school that will permit you to represent them. You will need to sign in with an Apple ID or make a new Apple ID to access this page.
